We approach Personal, Social, Health and Econonic Education in a number of ways at the school. We devote one lesson a week to PSHE and the wide range of issues it embraces. We follow a whole school appriach using the Cambridgeshire PSHE Service. We also have a full programme linked to children developing the skills to keep themselves safe in a variety of different situations e.g. internet bullying, road safety, peer pressure.
Through Collective Worship we celebrate, share and uphold the values we hold as a community and regularly talk about a variety of different topics related to celebrating differences and citizenship.
We aim towards becoming successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens with a sense of pride in all they do. Our behaviour management policy outlines our expectations for all to show respect for people around us.
Community groups are invited into school to extend an understanding of PSHE topics e.g. Life Bus Service, Community Police, School Nurse, Fire Brigade.
Relationships and Sex Education
Relationships and sex education (RSE) is an important part of PSHE education. Relationships education is compulsory for all primary school pupils, and consistent with the statutory Church School Ethos Statement, Relationships Education is based upon the premise that all life is from God and we are created in the image of God.
Relationships Education in our school is based on inclusive Christian principles and values, emphasising respect, compassion, loving care and forgiveness. Relationships Education in our school will be sensitive to the circumstances of all children and be mindful of the variety of expressions of family life in our culture, yet it should also uphold Christian values regarding relationships and marriage.
We believe Relationships Education is learning about emotional, social and physical aspects of our lives, about ourselves and our relationships. It enables pupils to develop essential life skills for building and maintaining positive, enjoyable, respectful and non-exploitative relationships. It equips pupils with information and skills they need to understand about themselves, their peers and people they meet in the wider community. It explores risks, choices, rights, responsibilities and attitudes. It will help pupils to develop skills to keep themselves and others safer, physically and emotionally, both on and off line. Relationships Education enables pupils to explore their own attitudes and those of others respectfully.

At Guilden Morden we seek to promote the health and wellbeing of everyone. We recognise that food and nutrition form an important aspect of our health and wellbeing. It also contributes to our pupils being able to learn effectively and therefore recognise the need to eat a balanced, healthy diet to keep us fuelled up with the energy we need for daily life.
Our school meals are clearly planned by our caterers, Aspens, but if you chose to provide a packed lunch for your child, then we encourage parents to ensure that the packed lunch is healthy and well balanced.
Please have a look at the following websites for some great ideas for healthy packed lunches: https://www.nhs.uk/healthier-families/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes/ https://www.phunkyfoods.co.uk/recipes/?fwp_courses=packed-lunches https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/school-packed-lunch-inspiration
Currently, we do not have any children with a nut allergies, but as a school we would request that we remain a nut free school. Please can you ensure that no nut products are included in your child’s packed lunch.
Lunch boxes should be clearly labelled with the child’s name and class.
We encourage our children to have a mid-morning snack. Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils are provided with a portion of fruit or vegetable each day as part of the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme. Children in Key Stage 2 can bring in their own fruit or vegetables as a snack. Any other snacks will not be permitted.
We encourage all children to bring in a water bottle to school, that is clearly labelled with their name and class. Only water will be permitted and there is a water dispenser for the children to top up their water bottles throughout the day.
